The plant reaches a height of 50–90 cm in indoor conditions. The leaf blades are lanceolate or elliptically-oblong. The variety exhibits motor activity: in the evening, the leaves fold vertically, displaying their vibrant underside.
The species is demanding in terms of growing conditions, requiring high air humidity (60–90%) and protection from direct sunlight, drafts, and sudden temperature fluctuations. Water quality is important, as the plant is sensitive to chlorine and hardness. A lack of light leads to a loss of leaf variegation.
