The Harras variety belongs to the species Symphytum × uplandicum Nyman and is a perennial herbaceous plant with stiff hairs on the stems and leaves. The plant is specifically cultivated to create a predictable chemical composition used in the production of medicinal products for the treatment of bruises, strains, and dislocations.
The main feature of the variety is the absence of detectable amounts of pyrrolizidine alkaloids in the aerial parts, which allows its extracts to be used on damaged skin. The produce is standardized to achieve a stable extract quality, and cultivation of the variety is mainly conducted under controlled conditions.
