The plant belongs to the species Tacca chantrieri. The variety 'Ebonita' is characterized by inflorescences with dark, nearly black bracts and long thread-like appendages known as whiskers.

The plant height ranges from 50 to 100 cm. The crop is demanding regarding growing conditions, preferring shade or diffused light, high air humidity, and good drainage, being sensitive to irregularities in the watering regime.
