The plant forms a rosette of long leaves. The presence of a vein-like pattern is a key visual characteristic. Depending on the growing conditions, the leaf length varies from 60 to 100 cm or more.
This culture is used in aquaristics as a background plant. It adapts well to water temperatures from 18 to 28°C and various levels of hardness. Moderate to bright lighting is required for the manifestation of the characteristic pattern on the leaves.
Propagation occurs vegetatively by means of runners. Under the name «Marmor», various variations of Vallisneria with spotted or striped coloration can be found in the trade, which botanically belong to the species Vallisneria australis or Vallisneria americana var. gigantea.
