The variety «Orion» (sometimes referred to as CDC Orion) was obtained as a result of breeding work in Canada. Its genetic pedigree includes the German variety Diana and the early-maturing black-seeded line HBNYT-73-I-37, developed at the University of Manitoba.
Morphologically, the variety is characterized by a thousand kernel weight of about 350 g. In scientific literature, the variety was used in studies focused on adaptation to various agro-climatic conditions, evaluation of productivity and resistance to pathogens.
