The F 288 line is genetically related 7/8 to American early dent forms and 1/8 to the Blanc de Chalosses variety. It is not a commercial variety or hybrid intended for widespread agricultural use.
In scientific programs, the line is used to create populations of recombinant inbred lines, particularly when crossed with the F 271 line. The main areas of research involving F 288 include the study of cell wall quality, silage digestibility, and plant biomass genetics.
