The Kalientes corn variety belongs to the stay-green type, which ensures the maintenance of green leaf color during the grain ripening period. Studies show that this property is expressed as a 2–3 day delay in leaf senescence and increased levels of chlorophyll, nitrogen, and SPAD index, although no significant increase in dry matteryield compared to conventional varieties was recorded.
The variety is used as silage (forage) corn. During comparative trials, the organic matter digestibility parameters were evaluated as below average due to a lower level of neutral detergent fiber digestibility compared to a number of other varieties.
