The Kilima variety is an open-pollinated landrace variety, not a hybrid. Its grain has a white color and belongs to the flint-dent type.

Plants possess good resistance to lodging, as well as complex resistance to local pests and diseases. The variety is intended for cultivation in regions with mid-altitude and high-altitude conditions and is actively used by smallholder farmers as a food crop.
