The Polan maize variety was bred at the Plant Breeding and Acclimatization Institute (IHAR) in Radzików. In studies of that period, the variety was characterized as a high-yielding hybrid created using new breeding traits.
The variety was intended for agricultural use as a grain crop. Studies on the processing of grain of this variety were conducted on a technical scale, where the yield of processing products, including grits, flour, germ, and bran, was evaluated.
