The SR 52 designation is historically associated with a corn hybrid released in Southern Rhodesia in 1960, which played a significant role in the development of agriculture in the region. At the same time, modern commercial hybrids from other companies may contain combinations of letters and numbers in their names that resemble R52.
In agronomic documentation, the R52 designation is often incorrectly interpreted in connection with the labeling of agricultural machinery, in particular combine harvesters used in corn harvesting.
