The hybrid Blizzard is classified as a three-way cross maize hybrid, possessing an intermediate grain shape that belongs to the flint-dent type.
In the European maturity classification system, the hybrid has ratings of S250/K230. Its introduction in 1974–1975 made maize cultivation economically viable in regions north of the 50th parallel in Germany.
