The Evolino variety belongs to the mid-season or mid-late maturity group with an S/K maturity index of approximately 250. The plants are characterized by high genetic heterogeneity, which ensures increased resistance to environmental influences and stress factors compared to linear hybrids.
The plants are distinguished by rapid development at the seedling stage, a strong stalk with good lodging resistance, and ear health. The crop is used for silage, green mass, and grain production. Due to the population nature of the variety, plants in the field may vary in phenotypic traits.
Evolino is a seed population and therefore does not require the annual purchase of F1 seeds, providing the possibility of self-propagation through selection. Silage yield is comparable to hybrid varieties, while grain yield may be 10–20 % lower.
