The K 4652 line was developed at the Maize Research Institute in Knezha, Bulgaria. It is not a finished commercial hybrid and is used by breeders for developing new varieties; specifically, it served as one of the components in the development of the mid-early hybrid Knezha 461.
In genetic studies, the line belongs to the Lancaster group. It is used as a tester for evaluating material and studying stress tolerance traits, although some studies have noted the line's sensitivity to water stress.
