In genetics and breeding, the R1-navajo (R1-nj) marker is an allele that causes anthocyanin pigmentation of the endosperm aleurone layer and the embryo. This marker is used in doubled haploid technology for visual identification of haploid seeds.
As a variety, Navajo is an early-maturing se type sweet corn hybrid. The maturation period is approximately 67 days; the plants form ears up to 20 cm long with 16 rows of kernels. The hybrid is characterized by good husk coverage of the ear tip and moderate resistance to rust and bacterial wilt.
