This variety is an agro-ecotype traditionally cultivated in the mountainous and foothill areas of the Brescia province. The plant is adapted to local conditions and is preserved by farms as part of the cultural heritage.
The appearance of the variety is reflected in its name, which translates as "Black prickly" due to the characteristic coloration and shape of the kernel and the ear. Biologically, the crop is a monoecious plant with a fibrous root system, the main volume of which is concentrated in the topsoil layer up to 35 centimeters.
