Plants possess high resistance to drought, lodging, as well as to infection by common smut, Helminthosporium leaf blight, rust, and root and stalk rots. The hybrid is distinguished by good moisture release during ripening.
Scientific studies from the early 2000s mentioned a transgenic version of the hybrid containing the CryIAb protein for protection against the European corn borer, while modern commercial batches are characterized as non-GMO.
