Lophospermum is a thermophilic crop exhibiting high tolerance to summer heat. Its shoots attach to supports using specialized twining leaf petioles, which allows the plant to be used in hanging baskets as well as on trellises or wire frames. Optimal flowering is achieved with night temperatures above 21°C and a photoperiod of more than 13 hours.
When grown in containers, a fertile, well-drained substrate and intensive nitrogen nutrition are required to maintain leaf color. In commercial production, multiple pinchings are performed to promote bushiness. The crop does not require deadheading as flowers drop off on their own; however, if there is a threat of frost, the plants must be moved to locations with temperatures no lower than 5°C.
