The lily bulb is evaluated by the 'size' parameter, defined as the circumference in centimeters at its widest cross-section. This indicator directly determines potential productivity, flowering intensity, and suitability for commercial forcing.

Size measurement is performed using calibration templates or a measuring tape. The indicator is recorded as two values, e.g., 12/14, where the numbers represent the diameter of the holes between which the bulb circumference falls. The size range varies from 10/12 to 22/+ cm, with the bulb size determining the number of buds: large sizes from 18/20 cm are capable of producing 5–7 buds, while small ones produce 1–2.

The minimum size for flowering depends on the lily group: for Asiatic and Longiflorum hybrids, it ranges from 10/12 cm, while for Oriental, LA, OT, LO, OA hybrids, and Trumpet lilies, it starts from 12/14 cm. In addition to size, professionals assess physical condition: firmness, presence of healthy roots, and absence of damage, as these are critical for successful plant development.
