Valerianella locusta (L.) Laterr.
A fungal disease of corn salad (Valerianella) caused by the pathogen Golovinomyces orontii, characterized by the formation of white mycelial growth on leaves and their subsequent deformation.
In the reference 7 varieties crop Corn salad, where this is mentioned in the description.
The causal agent of powdery mildew on corn salad is the fungus Golovinomyces orontii, referred to in some sources by the obsolete synonym Erysiphe polyphaga. The disease manifests as a white powdery coating of ectophytic mycelium and conidia, which develops primarily on the upper side of leaves and petioles.
In cases of intense infection, plant leaves become deformed, curl, and turn brown due to tissue necrosis, leading to a significant loss of marketability and the death of the leaf blade. It is important to differentiate this disease from downy mildew caused by Peronospora valerianellae.
Existing variety trial protocols and scientific publications lack data on specific races or pathotypes of Golovinomyces orontii affecting this crop. Furthermore, no universally recognized resistance genes to this pathogen have been described to date, and, unlike for downy mildew, standardized evaluation parameters for resistance have not been established.
