Tomato Yield

In professional variety trials, tomato yield is evaluated on plots of at least 10 m² using border rows to eliminate the influence of adjacent varieties. When recording the harvest, the total fruit weight and the marketable yield are documented separately, and the statistical significance of superiority over the control is determined using the LSD criterion.

Yield potential directly depends on the biological type of the variety: determinate tomatoes produce from 1 to 5 kg per bush, whereas indeterminate forms, due to prolonged fruiting, are capable of forming from 5 to 16 kg per plant. In industrial field conditions, modern hybrids for processing can reach a productivity of 100 t/ha and higher.

Crop formation is influenced by plant density, light intensity, the fertigation system, and the temperature regime. A critical factor is resistance to heat stress above 35°C, which reduces fruit set, as well as susceptibility to pathogens that can significantly reduce the actual harvest of marketable produce.
