The variety is a compact, dense, rounded shrub. Its height in temperate climates is about 60 cm with a width of about 1 meter; in warmer regions, it can reach 1 meter. Young shoots have a reddish tint. Small leaves 2–3 cm long are medium-green in summer, which changes to burgundy-red with the onset of cold weather. The plant is semi-evergreen; at temperatures below -15°C, the foliage drops.
Flowering occurs on current-year shoots from June–July to September–October. The flowers are large, bell-shaped, light purple-pink on the outside and a more intense pink on the inside with orange veins in the throat. Frost resistance is estimated down to -24°C (USDA zone 6). The plant maintains its shape well and is not prone to lodging.
