The variety was obtained by the method of double individual phenotypic selection, clonal selection of 15 elite genotypes of local origin, and subsequent polycross. It is a tetraploid variety with a chromosome set of 2n=4x.
The plant possesses high longevity, maintaining productivity for many years, and exhibits resistance to leaf diseases. During the growing season, it may have a higher content of cell wall components and lower digestibility compared to diploid varieties of crested wheatgrass (Agropyron cristatum).
