The variety is a hybrid obtained by crossing the Finnish variety Viking with a Russian chokeberry variety. The plant reaches a height of 1.5–1.8 to 3 meters and begins fruiting 2–3 years after planting.
The fruits are black or dark purple in color, with a diameter of 7–10 mm and an average weight of 1–1.8 g. The variety is distinguished by high frost resistance, withstanding temperatures down to -30...-35°C, and resistance to diseases and pests. The harvest ripens in late August — early September.
The Rubina chokeberry variety is used both for producing berries suitable for processing and fresh consumption, and for ornamental purposes for creating hedges.
