The plant is an annual herb with a deep branched root and a rosette consisting of 6–8 leaves. The flowering stem reaches a height of up to 1.5 meters. The leaves have a simple triangular or heart-shaped form.

The variety is intended for consumption as a leafy vegetable, similar to spinach. The leaves and young side shoots of the plant are used for food.
