The Aberglen variety, also known by the breeding number BY642, was developed at the Welsh Plant Breeding Station. The plant was classified as an early-maturing variety, during the cultivation of which studies were conducted on the selection of agrotechnical practices for a balance between yield and lodging resistance.
The variety demonstrates resistance to powdery mildew at all stages of development. Grain quality indicators included a crude protein content of approximately 134.6 g/kg and a varying level of fats depending on the position of the grain in the panicle. The variety was included in recommended lists for cultivation in the late 1990s.
