The variety belongs to the black oat group. It was obtained through selection from a breeding line originating from a cross of the varieties Orion II, Mesdag, and Sirius. During the period of its active use, the variety was valued for its early maturity, good yield, and stem quality.

In agronomic studies, the Kalott variety was characterized as moderately susceptible to the aphid Sitobion avenae. Experimental data indicated high sensitivity of the variety to drought and environmental stress factors. The main purpose of the crop was use as feed stock.
