The variety belongs to spring oats. During the 1970s, the variety was included in the lists recommended for cultivation in the UK and was actively used as a commercial crop, as well as a standard object in physiological, biochemical, and genetic studies of cereals.

The plant possesses moderate resistance to powdery mildew and exhibits resistance to the oat race of stem nematode. The variety was officially approved for use with a range of herbicides. At present, it is considered primarily as a historical sample and genetic resource for laboratory research.
