The variety is used as a forage crop and is grown both in pure stands and in mixed crops with vetch to produce green fodder and hay. The plant belongs to short-stature varieties compared to local Greek populations.
The variety is characterized by high yield and resistance to lodging. Studies were conducted to examine its resistance to crown rust and powdery mildew.
A high content of β-glucans and arabinoxylans was found in the grain of the Pallini variety.
