The BM8 clone was selected from wild populations in the state of Ohio with the aim of domesticating the plant for industrial cultivation. Propagation of this material is carried out primarily via the in vitro meristem culture method, as seed propagation is difficult due to low germination and seed coat dormancy.
During the breeding process, the key selection criterion was resistance to powdery mildew. Studies have also shown that the survival rate of plantlets during adaptation to greenhouse conditions is significantly increased when using mycorrhizal fungi.
The plant is used as a source of raw material for the production of immunomodulatory drugs. Data on agronomic characteristics, such as yield, maturity group, or height, which are typical for agricultural varieties, are absent in the publications.
