The modern hybrid of winter rapeseed Karat is early-maturing and intended for intensive cultivation. It possesses resistance to phoma stem canker (due to genes RlmS and Rlm12), turnip yellows virus (TuYV), and cylindrosporiosis. The plant is characterized by a powerful root system, high winter hardiness, drought tolerance, and moderate autumn development.
The historical variety or breeding line Karat, developed by the Swedish institute Svalöf, represents a spring type of rapeseed. It was used as a model sample in scientific research dedicated to the study of seed proteins, such as napin and cruciferin, as well as mechanisms of resistance to diseases, in particular to phoma stem canker.
