The Samourai variety became the first available oilseed rape variety with low erucic acid and glucosinolate content that possesses resistance to the pathogen Phoma lingam. In scientific literature, it is recognized as an important source of genetic material.
In breeding work, the variety was used as a maternal line (CMS Ogura) for creating hybrids. Studies from the early 2000s examined this line to assess the variability of traits such as flowering time and yield.
