The variety is classified as Sarepta mustard (Brassica juncea), despite erroneous references in literature suggesting it belongs to black mustard (Brassica nigra). The plant is intended to suppress soil-borne pathogens such as Verticillium dahliae and Pythium spp., as well as pests, due to a high content of glucosinolates, which release isothiocyanates upon hydrolysis.

The plant is characterized by a high biomass yield, which is a key factor for its use as green manure. For agronomic purposes, it is recommended to incorporate it into the soil during the flowering period, which usually occurs 50–70 days after sowing, to achieve the maximum biofumigation effect.
