The «Expres» variety was bred in Czechoslovakia in 1965 as a result of the work of specialists from the Research Institute of Plant Production in Prague-Ruzyně in cooperation with the breeding stations of the SEMPRA organization. It is classified as an early-maturing variety, however, a detailed standardized morphological description of the original variety is limited.

In modern retail, various hybrids are offered under the name «Expres», whose characteristics may differ from the original. Typical for these versions are maturity periods from 60 to 95 days, dense white heads weighing from 0.5 to 1.3 kg, intended for fresh consumption, freezing, and canning.
