The Vernon variety (registration number RS 1831) is the result of breeding work by Royal Sluis B.V. It was obtained during the crossing of the Elgon and Kiboreuzen lines and underwent variety trials in various regions, including Alaska, in the 1980s.

The plant belongs to the cauliflower group of the species Brassica oleracea L. The variety was intended for commercial production and was focused on cultivation in the early autumn and late autumn periods. To date, detailed morphological descriptors of the variety are presented fragmentarily.
