The variety is an F1 hybrid previously included in the Common Catalogue of Varieties of Agricultural Plant Species of the EU, however, it is currently excluded from official lists.

In scientific studies on the composition of cabbage varieties, Alfama demonstrated a vitamin C content of 36.8 mg/100 g of fresh weight, which was noted as one of the lowest indicators among the samples tested.
