In June-July, loose panicles with drooping spikelets form on upright stems, changing color from pale green or whitish to golden-brown at the end of the season.
The plant is winter hardy and adapts to various soil types, including sandy, clay, and chalky soils. Prefers sunny locations and well-drained fertile areas. In terms of maintenance, cutting back to ground level in late winter or early spring is recommended.
