The variety forms compact clumps 20 to 30 cm in height. The foliage has a glaucous hue and a characteristic light border along the edges. The inflorescences consist of thin erect stems with spikelets that are greenish-white when opening and later turn yellow-brown. The flowering period occurs from May to July.
The plant is winter-hardy and suitable for use in gardening as part of flower beds and borders. It prefers to grow in sunny or semi-shaded areas with well-drained sandy soils.
