Dubrovačka kapra is included in official variety lists as a local variety of Capparis spinosa. It is a perennial shrub with woody stems and drooping shoots up to 2 meters long. The leaves of the plant are fleshy, alternate, have a rounded shape, a glossy surface, and a green color.
The plant begins to bear fruit abundantly from the fifth year of life, with bud formation occurring only on annual shoots. The crop is light-loving, tolerates the presence of lime in the soil and temperature drops down to -8 °C. The plant's buds, the harvesting of which is a labor-intensive process, are used for food.
