Ibarroria is a local variety grown in the northern regions of Spain. In agronomic studies, this pepper is used as a reference local variety that requires protection from pathogens.

The variety possesses low resistance to a number of common viral diseases, including pepper mild mottle virus, tobacco mosaic virus, and cucumber mosaic virus. Susceptibility to these viruses significantly reduces yield and product quality.

Within the framework of breeding programs, work is being carried out to introduce L3 and L4 resistance genes into the variety's genotype. The goal of these activities is to increase disease resistance while maintaining the original morphological and organoleptic characteristics of the fruits.
