The variety is a small deciduous tree about 3.5 meters tall with a rounded crown up to 4–5 meters in diameter. The leaves are large and heart-shaped. Unlike the parent species Catalpa bungei, this variety does not bloom and is often grown as a grafted cultivar.
The plant possesses repellent properties against mosquitoes, the effectiveness of which increases as the crown size grows, starting from the third year after planting. The tree is winter-hardy, undemanding in care, and tolerates various light conditions. Leaf extract is used in the production of repellents.
