In horticultural literature of the 1860s, the chrysanthemum variety Cherub is described as a plant with golden-amber flowers with a pink hue and an incurved inflorescence shape.

Modern studies indicate the use of the name Cherub as a maternal parent in the development of a number of commercial chrysanthemum varieties. A detailed agronomic description of the variety by breeders Walter H. Jessel, Jr. and William E. Duffett is absent from open publications.
