The Carrizo SG variety is a citrange belonging to the Poncirus trifoliata x Citrus sinensis hybrid group. The SG suffix in the name indicates the certified and virus-free status of the planting material intended for professional propagation.
The plant is used as a rootstock for citrus, valued for its influence on the vigor, yield, and fruit quality of the scion. Citranges possess resistance to a number of soil factors, however, they exhibit varying degrees of tolerance to salinity and high soil pH. The citrange fruits themselves are acidic and largely unsuitable for fresh consumption.
