The variety «Alex» was obtained as a result of breeding work with natural populations of Cornelian cherry that grew in the vicinity of the municipalities of Dolné Vestenice and Horné Vestenice. The variety has not become widespread in commercial horticulture.

The fruits of the variety are used for fresh consumption and various types of processing, including the preparation of compotes, jams, juices, lekvar, and pickling.
