The variety has a slender, compact crown shape 80–120 cm in width. The shoots are characterized by a slightly quadrangular cross-section. The leaves are summer-green, opposite, broadly elliptical, dark green in color with a leathery and wrinkled-wavy surface, turning red in the autumn.
Flowering occurs early, in the period from March to April, sometimes starting in February; golden-yellow flowers are gathered in numerous umbellate inflorescences. The fruits are shiny red oval drupes.
The plant is drought-tolerant and undemanding, capable of growing in soils ranging from moderately acidic to calcareous, while preferring permeable and humus-rich garden soils.
