Variety description

The plant reaches 10–25 cm in height and forms a compact growth habit. The foliage is lacy, fern-like, light green or glaucous-green in shade, dying back in early summer.
The flowers are violet-purple, with a characteristic spur, gathered in dense raceme-like inflorescences. The pollen is yellow. Flowering occurs in March–April.
The variety is hardy and winter-hardy, resistant to damage by deer and rodents. Under favorable conditions, it is capable of naturalization.
