The plant reaches a height of 8–20 cm. The goblet-shaped flowers have a light purple or lavender-lilac inner side of the petals with dark veins. On the outer side of the petals, contrasting dark violet streaks are located on a silvery-white background. The leaves are narrow, dark green, with a silvery stripe along the central vein.
Flowering occurs in early spring, often before the leaves appear. The plant possesses winter hardiness corresponding to USDA zones 4–6. It prefers sunny or semi-shaded areas with light, well-drained soils and is sensitive to moisture stagnation.
