The Durawest F1 hybrid belongs to the netted cantaloupe melon type. Fruit weight ranges from 1.8 to 2.7 kg. The variety is intended for the fresh market and is suitable for transportation and long-term storage.
A ripening feature is the delayed detachment of the fruit from the peduncle. The optimal degree of ripeness is determined by the appearance of vertical cracks on the peduncle, rather than by fruit detachment. In field trials, the hybrid showed high yield performance in terms of fruit count.
