Fado F1 melon belongs to the climacteric type, which means that fruit ripening continues after harvest, accompanied by intensive ethylene emission and a high respiration rate. The fruits have a characteristic aroma, but are prone to cracking, especially in the blossom end area and during long-term storage at low temperatures.
In open field conditions, plants of this variety showed susceptibility to aphid infestation, powdery mildew, as well as susceptibility to mechanical damage of leaves from wind. The variety is primarily used as a standard in breeding and physiological studies to compare with new lines of the crop.
