The Cubella variety belongs to the group of pickling cucumbers intended for salting. In current vegetable catalogs and breeding materials, the variety is most often mentioned as a predecessor form, which has been replaced by modern F1 hybrids, such as Excelsior.

Cubella is associated with the German breeding school of Carl Sperling & Co. A detailed morphological description of the plant is absent in open publications, as the variety is primarily used as reference material for comparison with newer hybrids.
