The variety is a historical heirloom developed in Paris in the 19th century. The plant is vigorous, trailing type, and can be grown both on trellises and on the ground. It is classified as an early to mid-season variety with a maturity period of 45–55 days.
The fruits are cylindrical, short, with a warty, prickly surface of dark green color. Traditionally harvested at the gherkin stage at a length of 5–8 cm, although they can grow to 10–20 cm when fully mature. The variety is intended for canning and fresh consumption.
The variety is characterized by abundant fruiting, requiring regular harvesting to stimulate new fruit set. The plant is sensitive to frost and susceptible to powdery mildew and downy mildew.
